So.... I got fat. Next moves?

A few years ago I was cycling to work everyday, was fairly lean and coudl eat what I liked pretty much. Then I moved to the states and cycling seems a pretty dangerous past time over here! So then I stared doing Hapkido/Tae Kwon Do and that was enough to 'just' keep me in shape. Then some personal stuff happened, I started eating loads (snacking like crazy for many many months now), I stopped the marshal arts and basically do no exercise

So when I was trying on my combat pants and realized that they wouldn't fit, and watching a video I made recently, I realized I have ballooned a bit.

So.. my gut is really the place all the weight is, not that it matters. I suppose this is just a bit of a starter thread for me. I know I have to start exercising again I'm just gutted because I've become a completely unhealthy blob compared to my former self. I was never muscular or anthing just lean.

I dunno... some encouragement maybe? lol.

lol, makes two of us...currently 50 pounds overweight! you'll have to get into a new habit of exercising. right now, you're in the habit of being sedentary and eating too much. if you had a dog, that could be an excuse to drag your carcass outside and get some exercise. while walking is not the most intense or time-efficient thing you could do, a couple of 30-minute walks every day for six months should drop about 10 pounds or so.

another thing is to start riding again. go online and see if there are any cycling clubs leading group rides in your area. or, simply explore and try to find some cycling-friendly roads you can get a good 45-60 minute ride in.

I did actually buy a cheap bike in November, but I won't ride till roads clear up.

Maybe you just need to eat right and treat your body well.

StrongLifts: Simple, Effective Strength and Muscle Building

The program itself is free, easy and quick to do a few times a week. I'd suggest doing it with a personal trainer the first few times to learn the moves, after that it's just a matter of commitment.

Martial arts is also a great way to keep fit so if possible get back into that, I used to do Tae Kwon-do and a bit of systema. Now I just lift weights to put on weight and ride my mountainbike.

I have a desk job, plenty of snacks, and eat most of my lunch before 10:30. I snack all afternoon. Basically I eat too much, do too little and feel like junk.

x2 for stronglifts as well...you may need a small initial investment in weights or a gym membership, but you cant beat its simplicity
