Osu! Great Day

So back in January we enrolled our Son into Kyokushin Karate, we watched a few times and I decided to join....I was a lazy (turning) 40yr old 250lb fatass. I struggled to do one push up, and was out of breath going up the stairs lol.

I took Kyokushin for a few years as a kid, and figured, what the heck....

Two weeks ago, we both went in for Belt Testing, and tonight we found out if we passed lol. Gabe skipped an Orange Stripe to get a Blue Stripe, and I got my Orange Belt.

Next up is to compete in Kata and Kumite! Can't wait to fight, we went to Calgary Cup to watch and it was awesome.

So far I've lost 30lbs, my endurance has increased a crap ton, during an exercise with our eyes closed to do different stances I opened my eyes when I did one incorrectly - had to do 30 push ups, which I did with relative ease.

My goal is to fight in Japan with the team our Dojo sends over each year.

I love getting back in shape, am having fun with my Son doing it, we are doing a 5km Color me Rad run in three 3 weeks, and might do a half marathon in August.

Anyone else train in Martial Arts?

Congrats!

I wish I could find a kyokushin dojo around where I live.

If only. That's probably a 30 minute drive from my place. Houston's a big city.

That's not outside the realm of possibility, but I'm not sure if my schedule would allow for that. Still, it may be worth considering...

Edit: Just read that classes are only on Saturday's from 10-12. I'm curious what this is all about.

I ran into that website when I first looked a while back. It is indeed closer, but his website is so poor I kinda passed it over. Can't judge a book by a cover and all that. May email him...

I have always wanted to learn a martial art. Kudos for you. I can do about one chin up, and that is it.

When I get the paychecks to afford classes, I plan to go back for some BJJ, I've always wanted to get good at it but the cost burnt me out quickly. Congrats on the progress, maximum effort!

We were going to take BJJ, a friend of mine teaches a class, but my Son was more interested in Karate, plus another friend teaches in the class we joined so it was win win. Classes are wrapping up for the summer soon which sucks, but my Bro-in-law is a Brown belt in Wado Karate, so we are going to train with him every weekend until it starts back up.

I'm getting addicted to it lol, I can't wait to join an adults only class as well, and for the fights to take place. I was grinning ear to ear for my first "fight" in class, just a lot of fun!
