New Years is coming - Fitness resolutions here I come!

I've been meaning to get back into shape... everyone's story I suppose.

I tore my bicep and pectoral on my left side two years ago and it's only recently recovered. In that time I ate like a hog - as if I was still working out - and going 20 lbs I shouldn't have gained.

This only really coincides with New Years. We just booked a trip to Bermuda to go see the americas cup sailing race and I need to get my fat *** back into shape.

Anyone else planning on trying the same? Get into shape that is?

I'll try and record my progress again to keep me honest.

Maybe a six month contest is in order here. Anyone else in?

Not sure about a contest, but I do need to do something. Between bad knees and the cutest almost 2yr old time vacuum, I have been a little lacking in the active department.

You bet. I'd highly recommend getting a good road style bicycle. Watch the pounds fly off and you get to ride around all speedy. Worked wonders for me, and continuing to help as I progress towards my final weight goal.

For those who may be interested there's a website that's basically the MCB of the fitness internet. That's intense muscle.com. Read stuff before posting though. They are even more sticklers for not asking dumb questions than we are over there. Anyways a lot of pros use that site and it's almost like a kept secret clubhouse thing. So just tread lightly. Anyways there's an individual who started the site. His name is skip. He has a training protocol and diet that's based on bldybuilders in their golden years called longevity. I follow a lot of his teachings because i hVe Lymes disease. Also anyone with join problems I recommend truenutrition.coms joint formula. It does wonders for me

I'd play along, not really new-years inspired but rather recovering from a back injury that kept me pretty much immobile for about a month and a half. Lost a bunch of strength and enjoyed far too much comfort food during that time. Hoping to lose about 15lbs of fat and put on about 5 pounds of muscle in the next couple of months to get me back to where I was before my injury.

however ive been really off my routine due to a handful of reasons.. and i need to get back to it. will this contest be based on total weight lost? or appearances?

Weight is in inaccurate measure of fitness and health. How about things like waist size? You could be 5'9" and 200 lbs with a size 30 waist and be all muscle. Other good quantifiable measurements of improvement would be total time/Rep comparison from day one to day 180 (6months was mentioned). As a fitness coach I stress to people not to worry about weight specifically because its a small part of the picture. Worry more about how your clothes fit as well as strength and endurance goals. These are better measurements for improvement.
Example: "I want to be a size 32 waist, squat 300lbs , run 8 min mile , and do 10 strict pull-ups"

Science has shown that becoming more fit can actually cure adult onset diabetes.
