I was talking more along the lines of not giving your body enough time to recover. I had a crazy intense workout that my buddy and I did for two months. I was weaker at the end than I was halfway tbrough. But after two weeks of solid rest, I set new PRs in every lift. You've got to rest to be the best, sometimes.

Along these lines of getting into shape, what would you guys recommend a guy to do at home with 30min of free time daily to allot to building a little bit of upper and core strength? Only equipment I have is a set of adjustable weight dumbbells (can set to 25lbs each, or 50lbs for one, and everything in between).

I should post here... How do you guys self motivate into a routine?
I used to do 3 hours of gym (swimming, lifting/strength training, and running/racketball) in college, and was looking pretty good. Now I sit all day between my commute and work.

Only real time I find is... lifting my kids, playing with them outside. Playing paintball.
I can still go play straight for 6 hours and not be obliterated the next day (somehow). But I know that time is limited and I need to get into a better fitness level now.

^ I get it. I'm in much the same boat. So I go before work. My family is still sleeping anyway and I start my day off solid.
21 days sets a habit. Hold on to it as much as it sucks and eventually it will become something you need

Valid point.

I still get rest days and work keeps sending me places where I can't access gyms easily.

21 days... good to know!
Ok time to get motivated lol. Honestly reading what others are doing, challenges, actually helps.

Seriously though, find a training partner. Sometimes it's easier to be accountable to someone else than yourself.

Yup a partner helps a ton! Both in getting you to thw gym and also in pushing yourself during.

I got a new work out partner recently and it has helped big time. I made him puke the first day out, I didn't mean to, I felt bad :s

Haha! I always took that for a second wind, and ready for round 2.
