Any kayakers on here?

Looking to take up kayaking.I live pretty close to the ocean and the Russian river and figured it would be a good way to get in shape for pole vault season.

Just wondering if anyone has any advise or tips or opinions on gear ect

If you're on Facebook look up "Redwood Empire Paddlers ",one of my best friends (Zak Lieby) and moderator lives in Forestville and kayaks the Russian regularly
I've done my fare share of (inflatible) kayaking
If you plan on hardshell kayaking definitely take a roll class,it takes some practice to master
I'd recommend a Lotus PDF and comfy helmet before buying anything else
There are many good class 2-3 rivers on NorCal including the South Fork of the American,Cache Creek,Russian and the Mokulumne
