Stock question?

Hey BretG, I am in the planning stages of a pretty extensive project involving a P68-SC into a pirate lever style mare's leg.

Since we're starting as a P68, there's no existing stock, so I am wondering what sort of base requirements you had for the stock dimensions, cutouts, reliefs, etc. to fit a P-series and trigger group/lever into.

Thanks!

I've done several of these and it will require an adapted trigger mechanism.
These can be pretty complex and it really depends upon the stock to be used. I've used Springfield '03 stocks with levers, using the stock reinforcing cross bolt as the pivot point.
If I was starting from scratch, I would take the easiest route and solder an extension on the back of the lower tube and convert it to a K trigger group. It will be much easier to adapt it to just about any stock. I've done several of these too. The lever mechanism is up to you.

So is it easier to start with an existing stock, rather than fashion one from a chunk of wood?

depends on your design and what look your after in the end.
either way you'll need a little skill, understanding and a few tools.

making one from scratch will just take a little more time-maybe just a day.
