Compact Trucks

Welp, Harvey did in my FR-S, so now I'm in the market for a smaller truck. I've always had a crush on Tacomas, but it seems the new Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon are pretty consistently better reviewed. I was wondering if you fine folks have heard anything about these or any other models that I should keep in mind on this search. I suppose used is indeed an option as well.

I haven't looked hard into that one yet. Not a big fan of the aesthetics, and something about a FWD truck seems off...

Seems very well reviewed though.

I would test drive the Tacoma SR5 at least. The Toyota fan at work said he would have gotten one instead of the Tundra, but he had to have a larger truck. I needed a larger one also, and ended up with an F150. The oversize gas tank was a nice feature when we were detouring through the flood and then going through the gas panic.

Hang on, you had a Scion, you are going to a truck? Not a bad idea in Houston.

Tacomas turned me off with their fiberglass beds... or plastic or whatver they are. F that. The colorados are a big jump since their first gens. But seriously look at the good ol chevy silverado... same mpg compared to the colorados... unless you look at the diesel coly. Those, are waiting to be put in my driveway. Soon as i get a lil more ahead of the wifes new ford edge...

Also the colys are not much smaller than the silverados these days...

Anyone know about newer Nissan Frontiers? I like their barebone-ness. I don't want fancy electronics or navigation or modes or any of that.

No fancy electronics - a '90s Jeep MJ Comanche with 4.0L HO inline 6! As long as you don't mind single cabs and paltry payloads/towing. Good ones go for about $5k and are very easy to work on yourself.

The resale prices speak for themselves. Forget what the car rags say about the canyon and Colorado..you want a Tacoma off road (rear locker, crawl control) even if you never use that stuff it has a huge huge value if you ever need or want to sell it for something new.

If you want something more carlike the Ridgeline I'm sure is great. I'd get a Tacoma v6 off road and I'm not one of those guys that use the cars image to define me as a person. They are just the most relable and beloved trucks out there..one of the few cars pretty much worth buying new.

I would be very careful buying anything used in your area for the next 6 months.
