In that case, I still recommend the SV650, but as TinyBear mentioned the Vstrom 650 may be more comfortable for your size, and uses basically the same powertrain as the SV. Plenty of juice to move you.

Buy quality. Buy once, cry once. Definitely go full face. I had an "off" relatively early in my riding. You know what broke my fall? My face and knee. Pretty glad I invested in a quality (Shoei) helmet. Had I been wearing less I would have certainly had a broken jaw and missing teeth at best.

I'm not saying go out and buy a $700+ helmet like I did, but it's up to you what you value your melon at. My dad once told me, "Buy a $5 helmet if you have a $5 head."

I had considered the $150-300 range for helmets. And full face without a doubt.

Go to a local motorcycle shop and get sized. Tryon the helmets that are the correct size and see if any meets your needs. A good helmet is definitely in the 300 dollar range but conversely what is your insurance deductible for an emergency room visit? Kind of funny preaching about helmets when we play a sport where the same advice is given on masks. Find one the correct size that fits well, buy it and wear it around the house for a day or two. Get used to it. Rode with a helmet for my first 5 years but on occasion I'll grab my glasses and just go now so maybe I'm a hypocrite.

I had a 90s Triumph Thunderbird. It was beautiful, and it had a great engine/weight/performance ratio. If I bought a 90s Triumph again, I would get a Triump Thunderbird Sport. I would also wait to find one with the three pipe (looks like a peacock) conversion. Or maybe I would just settle for a tangerine and white paintjob.
Here is a pic of the Thunderbird sport with the three pipes

I had two triumphs, the first and last.

I had a 94 Trident and it never worked properly, had to sell at a loss after 6 months. Saw it sold a couple times already on local boards with "minor running problem" after that. I swapped almost every electical part on it.

But could be it was just cursed, T3 are supposed to be bombproof.

Nah, it's risk management and what we deem acceptable risk. I've done it. Sometimes it's just too $#%#$%@ hot for ATGATT.

...and everyone has different values for acceptable risk. If it's too hot to wear my gear for the ride, I'll take the car. That said, I have some nice gear that allows me to ride comfortably in 100deg weather as long as I keep moving. If there's stopped traffic, that temp drops down to about 70deg...

Another vote for the Vstrom 650 here. I actually bought mine used from a guy about your size, OP, and removed the peg lowering kit he had installed to make it even more comfortable for his height. If you're interested in the lowering kit let me know.

Stripped down for learning:

Mass hot vs. Central FL hot are two very different beasts. Heavy stopped traffic here is also a certainty, but we agree on the risk management.

Beautiful 'Strom. I was [] that close to a burnt orange '12 model when they came out, but couldn't make the deal happen. Since it was a fresh makeover at the time everyone was wanting MSRP+ even used.

The SV/V-Strom is one of the best platforms out there for the $.

I'm having a hard time recommending a bike.
Your original post says you want a "motorcycle" but then also says you want a "street bike."

Which is it?
