Your original post says you want a "motorcycle" but then also says you want a "street bike."

Which is it?
Both.

I'm roughly 6'2" & 245 lbs.

I got my first bike this summer. I inheritted my moms 2002 ZR-7S. It's a sport touring 750 generally considered a good starter bike (less aggressive throttle response but plenty of go, with a softer suspension). The styling is more on the sport side but 1/2 naked (upper faring but no lower, air cooled) with a more upright sitting position (you can of course lay on the gas tank for aero goodness if you like). I rode it from Ottawa to Toronto as one of my first rides and it wasn't bad despite all forms of weather. I intentionally planned plenty of stops. Weather included sunny skies, rain, no wind, heavy cross wind, and even hail at one point (at which point I ducked under a bridge).

The bike does have 4 carburetors which need to be drained when you winterize the bike. Since the carburetors are located behind/between the header runners this often becomes a 2 person job but it doesn't take long.

I didn't skimp on the helmet (went with Shoei as it fits my head). Even all helmets that meet a standard are not created equal. DOT and Snell are more like minimums. I did pick up a used jacket though (good condition but much more affordable). I wear jeans and roughly 9" boots (with a good heel on them).

I love my DL650. I got mine to learn with, and I think it's pretty great.
