Where would I start to look for an architect? Do counties usually have lists or is there a good website to find someone local?
The AIA (American institute of architects) has an Architect finder web page, that could help. Also word of mouth, or of course there is always google.

For an addition or even a small out building an architect is not necessarily needed and can be a waste of money. An experienced draftsman is really all you need actually and legally. Most good builders either have their own draftsman or know someone who can listen to what you are looking to do and make a set of legitimate "blueprints" [not really blue anymore].

I'm an architectural technologist and I work for a consulting engineering firm in Canada. If you have any questions I'm happy to answer them in regards to your building. I specialize in building envelope (roofs and walls) but I can generally answer most questions. Feel free to shoot me a PM!
