I think we clearly saw both sides of the fence... People tend to have stronger opinions here because we're a slightly older, dare I say wiser crowd... and maybe people only know of the negative without the possiblilty that maybe just maybe there is good in something, just not for them...

There's are also things called not posting anymore in the current discussion because your not going to persuade anyone to change their minds..

Several of us that have good experiences with union's have stayed in such... Not because of their past but because it fits what we want to do for a living and can survive on the funds generated by doing such...

I don't know why I felt I needed to post this.... Now we have learned our lesson of getting sucked into a no end discussion...

Fu** talking about work........ Let's go grab a beer and play some paintball...
Probably all of us can find something to spin us up here at one time or another. Probably all us have pissed off somebody here, at one time or another with something we typed as well. While a few of us just like to a little more adament about our opinions at times, I don`t think anyone really takes it too personal. Like it was said above if everyone had the same opinion it would be boring. Really MCB discussions go like this:
I like icecream.
I like icecream.
What kind?
Breyer`s
No Haagen Daas is better.
Huh? Come again, Turkey Hill rocks.
Here is where it starts to degenerate:
Vanillia is the best.
No chocolate, you commie.
Oh yeah well I like sugar cones.
I like waffle cones.
Then it starts to drift off the subject:
I like coffee with my ice cream.
Me too, what kind?
Kona.
Me too, I know where I can get some cheap.
Really?
Cool.
Before the thread dies out, everyone has forgotten all about their ice cream.

I am a member of two unions. One is a cesspool of corruption and nepotism where the younger members have to pay up more than older memebers who make no effort to learn new technologies to remain competitve. Where its easier to go on strike than it is to train people to do their jobs better, and where millions "disapper" from the pension fund, where the former president built his second mansion in Utah on union dollars, against whom the DA of the city once had a case against for rackateering which was later dismissed due to bribery of his superiors, and where not toeing the party line can lead severe consequences whose punishments are doled out by a star chamber. In fact it reeked of the secretiveness and party line toeing that communism was known for.

My second union however asks a fair dues schedule, provides me with health care and pension, and will take former employers to court to get me more money if they are cuaght cooking their books, a notoriuosly common practice in my industry. Without them I'd be making half my wage and unfairly so, as my industry is very competitive and given to mistreament of employees due to high turnaround.

In short, it depends on the union, as in all things.

I think I have made my mind up to just leave the mcb community because I don't want to spend time in an on-line forum with people that I wouldn't hang out with , and I guarantee I would NOT hang out with a lot of the people here. I haven't been a member here very long , and I know my leaving isn't going to make a difference so...........

Whether you want to admit it or not , in the small time I have been here there have been several threads posted seemingly with the sole purpose of getting people fighting over the Internet.

I may check the b/s/t section every now and then , but I doubt I just hang out here anymore.

I'm done for a while
This was the most antagonistic reply in the entire thread! It borders on being itself a flame, and surely reeks of smoke!

I've read the entire thread and found it to be a very passionate yet civil conversation about a difficult and relevant issue facing our country today.

Great job guys!

I see nothing in these postings that any of you should feel ashamed about, no matter which side of the issue you are on.

There are two side to every business. The management and the workers. If a union can effectively and efficiently protect the interests of both, that union is a viable and worthwhile entity. If they can't understand this, or are just self serving, then neither will last for long.
