The movie does not need to be faithful to the book to be a good movie. Usually the opposite is true. Books and movies have different pacing, different character sets, different ways of setting of backstory, action, etc.

Thats why I can enjoy movies like the Bourne series. I know they have almost nothing in common with the books.... but the movies were still pretty good.

World War Z would never be a Hollywood action movie, as its written. But certain elements are very action filled. All the various scripts floating around have focused on those small bits (like NYC and Israel) and fleshed though out.

That sums up my thoughts on it.
The only summer blockbuster I'm really looking forward to is Elysium.

The audio book is legit. It has Alan Alda, Mark Hamil, Henry Rollins and several others I can't remember. I listened to it twice.

Yeah, I'm not excited at all. If they had taken the audio book script and made that into the movie, it would have been good. I understand there are parts of the book that would be way too slow... The entire section with the Chinese sub comes to mind. With that said I'd LOVE to see the Yonkers and Hope, New Mexico parts on the big screen. Sadly with how the details of this movie are coming out, those sections won't come to fruition. Sad. There was the possibility for something different here...

I thought the Chinese sub was a pretty awesome part of the book. It would be tough to keep it interesting for a movie perhaps, but they managed to make Red October interesting, didn't they? What got me about that section of the book was just how well researched it was.

IMHO. WW-Z, the book, would need its own 6 part HBO mini-series ala Band of Brothers.

Just saying.
