Its not convenience but dependence on convenience and seemingly helplessness without. Look at Chappy's discussion about preparing for travel. Nowhere does he say "OMG don't use a GPS" at least that I recall. He mentions not relying on it. I am working towards having the knowledge to grow my own food with the use of simple tools and impart that knowledge to my children. Does it mean I will not use the tractor ever? Nope it just means I will know how to do it without the tractors. Does it mean I will not buy some of the things I could grow at the grocery store? Nope - growing food is a lot of work and frankly I am only going to do enough to have things I cannot readily buy or simply for the learning process.

Convenience is ok. Being helpless if that convenience is taken away? Not ok.

AP history 12 teacher told me the Tet offensive (Vietnam war) was an American attack. that Karl Marx was a socialist. The American flag was raised on the Reichstag not the soviet. And China is the perfect communist country.

Also had a kid in that class ask if the KKK and the KGB were the same thing. Stupid is everywhere in every generation. The current one a bit more due to mass misinformation online and people taking everything at face value. But its always been there. Internet makes it more prominent.

I had a friend who graduated high school and was in College, didn't know what Hoover Dam did or what hydroelectric power was. I also mentioned Chernobyl she had no idea what nuclear power was or what Chernobyl's incident was.

I am 23, sort of depend on a calculator, but can do enough of it in my head. 3-digit addition and subtraction gets me sometimes because I am spacey and forget sometimes what I was doing.

Are you telling me you are literally incapable of counting to 100 in your head?

Because I'm really, really sorry if that's the case.

I feel your pain as I work retail as well. They want the exact price or change calculated in a matter of seconds.

I was in America once, and while there I was conversing with a kid.
He asked me where I was from, so I said Canada.
He said how long did it take you to get here?
I said six hours.
The boy looked stunned and baffled. Then he said where is Canada?
I said it is the country right above the US.
He looked confused and said really? I thought it was by Zambia or something.

*Not intended as a slur. I am in America right now for school.
