A collision between an Amtrak train and a cattle trailer sent one man to the hospital Thursday.

The Kansas Highway Patrol stated in a report Thursday afternoon that the accident was caused when the driver of the semi which was pulling the cattle trailer did not yield for the train.

The accident was reported 8:13 a.m near the intersection of Road X and Road 140, about 1.5 miles west of Reading. The wreck sent the engineer of the train to Newman Regional Health with minor injuries.

There were, however, several injured cattle, some of which were fatal. The exact number is unknown. The trailer was nearly split in half by the collision.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 54-year-old Ray Tankersley of Leoti was driving a 1987 Peterbilt north on Road X when he failed to yield at the railroad crossing. Amtrak passenger train No. 4 was unable to stop and struck the 2003 Wilson cattle trailer.

Jarrod W. McWhirter, 35, of Marshall, Missouri, was the engineer of the train. He was taken to Newman Regional Health with non-life threatening injuries.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said that after a four-hour delay, the train continued eastward.

Magliari told the Associated Press at least two of the three crew members in the cab of the Southwest Chief sustained minor cuts and bruises, but none of the 211 passengers were hurt.

The train left Los Angeles on Tuesday and resumed its trip to Chicago after a replacement crew arrived and the damaged lead locomotive was disconnected.

Cowboys from a cattle pen on Road 210 were taken to the scene to help round up cattle which were loose on the railroad tracks and the roadway.

Only in Kansas would it be important to note the year the truck and tractor were made.

I'm in Florida. There are better sources than I to see all the news.

Oh sure, you mention you're in Florida, but don't post anything.

I don't feel like I need to post to any particular story.

You're obviously too close to Tampa.

One of the best parts of living in a small town is you get small town newspapers reporting small town news.

For me, the latest is people in a near by town are looking to overturn a pit bull ban...

Oh, man. I spent my childhood in Illinois.
It's seriously two completely different states.

To fulfill my obligation toward a specific incident, this one may not be recent but is my current favorite and kind of on par for Florida.
Summary:A Melbourne man was arrested after shaking off a taser twice, claimed he was Thor, and sexually assaulted a tree.
