Lol Kermitt. At my local lodge, as with many lodges, we volunteer for the community. We hold food drives, put out free meals, hold events to raise money for local fire departments, cancer organizations, disasters and such.

We directly support foster homes, nursing homes, hospitals, etc.

Every year we give scholarships to graduating high school seniors and we donate to school events during the year and provide school supplies.

I've personally mowed yards for a few Widows to help out too.

Masonic life is about contributing to the greater good. I am proud to be a part of it.

Most lodges have a few events during the year where the public can come in and see everything. Our main lodge in our county does it during the officer election each year and we turn it into a community event where best teacher in the public school is awarded and such. The newspaper is even there.

There are some things that are secrets but it's because of tradition, nothing like the shadowy villain stuff you see in movies. Also, sacrificing a goat is completely optional.... if you want to cook that for the feed out.

Just the Cliff Notes version, you don't have to give away all your world dominating secrets.
You want the Knights of Columbus, thats the version for Catholics. ;-)

To anyone outside the organization that wants to know more about it, especially it's conspiracy theories and reports from people "in the know"

Read this book: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/pil...eId=PLGoP75606

Robinson at the time of researching and writing this book was NOT affiliated with the Masons at all.

Ahem. Since you're in Texas it's unclear if snow is part of this equation, or... or... I... eh... oh, good grief.

Only according to the Catholic Church. The Church doesn't want Catholics to be Masons, but Mason's don't care what religion you are.

I've toyed with the idea of joining several times as my maternal grandfather was a Mason. Also had a friend join in the past few years, and have helped some DeMolay youth when working at the public library.

Hoping to get around to it one of these days.

Slim, omg that's funny. Stupid auto text, I mowed yards for widows. I did not 'plow' them.

I'm seeing many parallels in descriptions to how my fraternity worked back at university (Canadian fraternity chapter at an engineering school known for not being a party school).

As for the secrecy part someone once asked my [fraternity] brother how we keep it all a secret and his response was really the best one I've heard (paraphrased, I may have been drunk at the time):

Nobody goes around telling people about our secrets because the actions themselves are pretty mundane. They only have meaning for us because we know the background of each thing we do. For someone who doesn't actually understand what's going on they would just see it all and go, "oh, that's it?"

but then ya, goats.

Masonic Secrets.

We have none.

15 minutes on Google and you can find every secret that is in the ritual. You can also find 100 that are completely or partially made up. IIRC the time between the first written record of the fraternity and all of it's secrets being released by someone who saw a chance for personal gain was like 10-15 years. So the secret has been out for at least ... 600 years?

Now when you join you promise to "keep the secrets". For me that's a personal moral test. AND it begs the question, If you can't be trusted to keep a secret, can anyone really trust what you are saying is true?
