Yeup. Big list of course.

But yeah, thus the "volunteering"

so .. you cant find a thing that you care about in that big list ? I'm sorry to give you static , but 4 hours of volunteer time wont kill you. There are lots of things about working that suck, just add this to the list and move on

^ its not about caring or helping, its psychological manipulation and abolishment of the individual to promote the perception of one united company.

AND the other part of loss of money because I could not work second job that time period.

I am not sure but I think that is legal in Michigan. I know several large companies that do it or something similar.

Ask yourself also, "Could I myself be able to hold my manager / supervisor / employer hostage for 4 hours so I can yap to them about whatever or have them do something for free for me?"

I express no opinion on the employer's compliance with state law, but under the facts provided they probably have an FLSA problem: https://www.dol.gov/whd/opinion/FLSA...27_04_FLSA.htm

Obviously I'm not an attorney for anyone on the internet, this is not legal advice, blah blah blah.

Is it a total of 4 hours volutary work? (I.e. not 4 hours every weekend). Does it have to be with THEIR business?

you don't have to follow generally socially acceptable guidelines and behavior when volunteering if it's to your advantage and amusement
