A quick teaser while I wait for the last envelope of parts...

There is a heck of a difference between one and two coats of Mission Oak gloss Polyshades, over god knows what type of wood.

Nice.

Does your Dad know you're fixing it up for him?

Nope. He said "I was going to throw it out, you're welcome to it if you want it."
Probably thinks I'll toss on an old barrel cut down to 18" or leave the receiver in a box.

Also, think the oil-based polyurethane is still curing. Waiting time for the trigger guard and the preservation wax I ordered will do it good, and I'm going to deliver it in a big box so his neighbors don't see. I'll leave instructions to keep it in the box but not the case for a while, so it doesn't have fabric pressed to it and blocking airflow.

Got the last of the parts in.
Was going to do the last of the write-up, but at some point the rear trigger guard screw either stripped out or dad used a larger one than stock. So I had to employ the old trick of filling the hole with glue and tapping toothpicks in tight. Waiting for that to dry.
Plus the trigger guard was obviously drilled and countersunk (not enough) and then bent to shape. So the screws sit proud of it.
Not much I can do for the front one, and it's not as bad, but the rear needed a good run-in with the countersink. And then a touch-up with cold blue to hide that.

Dried, finally found a use for that 90-degree screwdriver.

Very nice.

I get my best photos of guns outside, on a cloudy day.

He hasn't seen it since it came out of storage with a ruined barrel and a receiver the color and texture of a brick.
That seemed like it hurt him, which is why I went through the effort. Didn't tell him I intended to return it. He probably thinks it's in my parts bin.
Got the wax in the mail. Will be giving the metal a good buffing with that to prevent that, and will pay him a visit soon.

And the write-up can be seen on the Tinker's Guild, here.
