This makes me profoundly sad. He was such an amazing person and gave so much selflessly. I never had the pleasure to meet him, but a lot of my friends got to meet him when he would go do tours in the sandbox. He was a Marine's Marine and is a legend amongst the ranks of DIs. St. Peter definitely just got dressed down if he didn't give a proper situation report

I watched Full Metal Jacket with friends on August 25, 1987- the day before I arrived at Parris Island to start bootcamp.

I was greatly relieved that my drill instructors didn't get any ideas from Ermey's Gunnery Sergeant Hartman.

RIP and Semper Fi

What a great guy he was! So sad to see him go. RIP R. Lee Ermey.
A lot of people know him from Full Metal Jacket, but I first saw him on the TV show Lock and Load with R. Lee Ermey. I really enjoyed that show.

My favorite full episode:

My favorite clip:

What's great about R. Lee Ermey is he wasn't just a badass in movies. He was a badass Gunnery Sergeant in real life.
