This year's costume thread.

Rather than hijack the other one, I'll start a new one everyone can join in on.
I'm not much of a cosplayer but I have a bunch of nerd friends that throw parties. I enjoy making the stuff more than wearing it, but...

I finished up my Fallout costume. FWIW, my camera makes the 'rust' look more purple than it is.
Last year I made:

A 10mm pistol, based on the Fallout 3 one. The FO4 one was just more complicated, while the FO3 version clearly had a Desert Eagle buried in the model. Therefore it was easy to nab a cheap airsoft gun and build from there.
The magazine still detaches, the slide still racks, and the trigger still drops the hammer.

A stimpak. That's actual liquid in there.

And the required suit.

This year I finished the absolute necessity for that suit:

That last one is just there to show that the screen is a separate piece. It's lexan with a faux error message printed out and pasted to the back, with that mesh there to fill in the gap on the right. Without that 'screen', it's sized to fit my phone, and that gap bares the control buttons.

It isn't exactly on model. I can claim it's a prototype or different model (pretty common in the series) or budget model. This one has driver issues. Note strategically placed glitching.

Of course, that's not the only issue...

That's a really solid Fallout build. Good work!

I miss my machines. I felt like I kinda of half-assed some places.
Honestly, if I really felt like it, I could make it 100% straight from the games. But that would've taken me until next Halloween.
Diminishing returns.

I'm giving up on using a spark igniter and will instead just hide a lighter on the back end.

The flame effect does look impressive, though.

I applaud you guys for keeping the spirit. I haven't had the time or energy to put an in-depth costume together for the last few years so I'll probably just halfass with a ghost or some other sh*tty hack job.

Well, this is the beauty of working on-call.
It's the slow season so I had to keep myself occupied.
Thankfully I had all the materials aside from a couple pipe fittings laying around from last year, because otherwise I'm scraping things up for ebay so I can pay rent.

I kind of double dipped on this one. Most of the costume was 3D printed (teeth, jaws, horns, the heart, the totem beads...) and I used it to test/dial in my new printer.

Otherwise, it a bit of fabric and a pile of free waste paper (the helmet base is paper mache). I probably have less than $50 total investment here, which isn't bad for a hobby

My kids are 6 years old, so this is prime Halloween costume time.

Nice, we've been wanting to do a Twin Peaks group costume theme, but the older you get the harder it is to organize.

And the Fallout costume won the local comic shop's contest again.
Since I won last year, I handed the gift certificate to a lady that made a perfect Wonder Woman costume from scratch.
The owner saw it, thanked me, and insisted I pick out something from the boxes on front counter.
I don't really follow comics, so now I'm debating trying to sell a new hardback copy of Batman Noir: Hush with a mildly torn plastic wrapping, or actually enjoying a comic again for once.
