I just saw this article about ice swimming in Finland today and it got me thinking about this. It's an interesting idea that is indeed on the edge of nightmares. I wonder how many people get trapped under ice and die over there. Maybe Fins are just good at not being idiots?

Not to mention the ice looks like it only 1.5" thick or less. They probably have equipment to cut through pretty quick in case of an emergency.

I jumped into a lake in a cave up here, the water was so cold my skin hurt, and I began to cramp within seconds. Not sure I could tolerate the temperature under a sheet of ice.

yeah, i was thinking i'd (could) do it in a full winter wetsuit...
