It was also sold as a "feature"; the idea being that the blowback caused the ball to bounce off the back of the powerfeed and jump right into the marker. I think it was an automag thing first, but that was messed up by the shape of the early feed plugs which actually supported the ball stack instead of causing the next ball to drop. Powerfeeds didn't get much respect after that, and then powered feeders started showing up and nullifying the effect anyway.

They are at least "mostly harmless", if not actually effective.
