Larry Correia's Monster Hunters International

Been a while, so thought I'd share my most recent author find - Larry Correia and his very entertaining Monster Hunter International series. The man is a serious real steel gun nut, as he got his start in the literary world by sharing his first novel on a well known gun chat forum, and then selling enough physical copies of said novel to get the attention of an established publisher. It's very apparent, as several of his early books spend entire paragraphs with gratuitous gun porn fan service (it'd be like a character in your story playing with his Autococker, and you describing in detail why he went with the Bomb 4-way, but kept the stock WGP Jackhammer reg and slider trigger, and... for a page and a half). But other than that, the books are very entertaining and you'll love the premise - monsters are real, the government hides them from John and Jane Q. Public while paying exorbitant amounts of money to anyone who can manage killing them.

He's currently got 5 books in the MHI series, with 2 more forthcoming, plus a more modern shoot 'em up series he's writing with Mike Kupari (the Dead Six series), a kind of Push/Jumper-esque series set in the 1930's gangster era (Grimnoir Chronicles), and several fiction pieces for Privateer Press's Iron Kingdoms setting. I've read all 5 of the MHI books and loved them, read the first Dead Six book and thought it was merely okay but now awful, and also read the first Grimnoir Chronicle book and enjoyed that one very much.

Beyond that, I try to avoid his blog. I find I'm becoming much more moderate in my politics as I get older and the far right conservative diatribes just grate on my nerves more and more. But his books? Excellent reads that I have obviously enjoyed enough to share with all and sundry.

Yes, it was on The High Road. Okay, it was sold on The High Road, but started on The Firing Line... history on it doesn't matter, it is a good book, otherwise he couldn't have gotten folks to put money down for physical copies of a digital work he'd already given away, and Baen wouldn't have signed him. Definitely worth a look if you're looking for something that's a quick read, modern fantasy, and a bit grittier than most.

Pretty much all of Larry Correia's books are entertaining reading.

Just picked up book 1 of MHI for.... $0.00 on Amazon.
Yup, free kindle book, not sure if it is always free or a promotional price but I love finding free or 0.99 titles in the bargain bin.

It's free on Amazon because Baen (Mr Correia's publisher) has this book and many others available for free in their Free Library. Ton of good books on there, though be warned, most are just the first book in a multi-book series. First taste is free, rest are gonna cost ya.
