Easiest way to make extra money is to not spend it

Right now I'm going through my monthly bills and getting rid of all the things I just don't use anymore.

Audible: $23.00 a month (ouch)
Magazine subscriptions: $2.00 to $4.00 a month, but added up to $23.00 total
Home Phone: $44.50 a month - and I don't use it. Ever. Goodbye verizon.
Cable TV: I was paying $82 a month, cancelled it, got directvnow for only $35 a month. Instant savings, have the same channels.

Do you have other monthly fees such as spotify and you're not using it? Pandora maybe?

Do you have a monthly gym membership you just keep in the hopes you're going to use it?

Heck, I called my security company for an upgrade (ADT) as I've had the same system for 11 years now. I'm getting a better system and saving $5.00 a month.

Add it all up and in 24 hours I've saved myself $100 a month (rounding), or $1,200.00 a year.

My wife and I reassess our spending every year and it has saved us loads of money.

Here is what we have done in the past 7 or so years we have been doing this:

No TV supscriptions (Netflix, cable, satellite ect)
No home Phones (seriously, I get enough telemarketers calling me on my cell)
Basic cheap *** internet (we pay $45 a month, actually switched from Spectrum to ATT for the same price and a faster better long term deal)
No contracted phones and signed up with Ting (our last COMBINED cellphone bill was $28)
Dumped our newspaper sub (only $50-100 a year but still)
Dropped Xbox Live (Too many free games online to make it worth my time)
Dropped the gym sub (wife likes her Wii Fit games and I ride my bike to work when the weather is good)
Sold the car we aren't using (less insurance, tag and maintenance costs)
Set a weekly food budget for the house (We target between $55 - $65 for the both of us a week)
Probably some other stuff we did a long time ago that are normal now and cant remember if people still pay for it.

By the way some things you guys can do to save money:

- Your local library has audio books! Mine even has an online downloadable portal (Overdrive) that my wife and I use for digital and audio books.
- Verizon, ATT, Sprint, MetroPCS ect ect are not your only available cell phone companies. Hell, if I need something from Ting I just call em and a legit person here in the states actually picks up the damn phone.
- Youtube provides me with the quick entertainment I want every now and then and is obviously free.
- Some TV companies like Comedy Central will let you watch the newest show in its entirety for free (some limitations obviously) on their website.
- Don't be ashamed of coupons. If you are willing to pick up that quarter off the ground, you can use a coupon. Some shopping places have their own online coupon thing and do it digitally.
- Pack a lunch, seriously $8-$12 a meal adds up quick every day. I remember doing $750 in one month just eating out, that hit hard at the end of the month.

doing the same thing

think about keeping that house phone though and just cut it down to the very basic so you keep the copper line attached to your house. no caller id no long distance - just minute rate service
should be about 20 a month.
A POTS line phone always works - even when the power goes out

My parents keep their standard phone plugged into the wall, mostly because the cell service around their house sucks. Pro's n con's for each side of keeping the land line and is unique for each person/household.

I did cancel my cable tv - have internet still - and I'm using www.directvnow.com

Directvnow is basically netflix for tv. Has all the live tv, can watch shows, movies, etc. And I'm on the "live-a-little" plan which is $35.00 a month - taxes included.

I get all the channels I want and more. No sports, but I don't watch espn or that stuff anyhow so I'm good. If it wasn't for my kid, probably wouldn't have it, but my kid enjoys it. Works on apple tv, roku or firestick.

Easiest way to make money is to sell all those unused paintball guns and parts they some backwater channel like crusty old forums.

I believe the technical term is "converting hard assets to liquid assets."

Yes actually! They just recently started. I get the ABC, CBS, and NBC local stuff now. Maybe just ABC and CBS will need to double check. Everything is still new and just barely out of BETA. has a few hiccups now and then but for the price savings completely worth it.

They're adding new channels to the lineup all the time too.

I did the same but with ps vue (similar service, as is sling). These streaming services have taxes and everything built in and with basic internet your only subject to the utility pole tax (which is like under a few bucks). I recomend it to everyone. Plus its a better tv watching experience if you don't watch that much TV.
