Does good metal core still exist?

It seems like there were a number of bands who keyed off of the Gothenburg sound back in the mid-aughts. Nowadays, it seems like everything has either gone djent or added whiny emo vocals.

Any suggestions for some heavy bands that still incorporate a little melody/groove? Thinking along the lines of older In Flames, It Dies Today, Unearth, Darkest Hour, Lamb of God (kinda), Sonic Syndicate/The Unguided, etc. Just found Parkway Drive and they seem promising.

Yeah I think metalcore has had it's day. Though they definitely aren't metalcore, you should check out Arch Enemy and Gojira, if you haven't already.

In a more metalcore/post-hardcore direction, the recent (ish) From First to Last album is pretty good, but you'll probably find the vocals pretty emo (same vocalist as Periphery).

Check out Insomnium and Omnium Gatherum at least. Mors Principum Est is another good pick.

Edit: Forgot Before the Dawn.. but unfortunately they're no longer together.

Edit2: Machinehead

also before the dawn went out change the name still did not work since other singer was one that made that band so great.

Revisiting some bands from the early aughts to get my fill - Himsa and Shadows Fall.

Is this like when our parents will only listen to oldies? It is, isn't it? Crap, I'm old.

well based on this topic basic metalcore not what people want they want these types of metalcore. Deathcore, Mathcore, Grindcore and Melodic metalcore. that is what is popular. sad part hard for radio stations to play that type of music since most stations play what is popular now a days or what where in top 40 or number one hits for rock music. for some reason metalcore is still strong but does not get airplay it use to get since what was hot for music one year is not hot other years.

The Shadows Fall break up is kinda depressing. It stopped being financially feasible for them to tour, so they stopped making music. I really liked them too.

I can't believe I forgota bout this until now, but there was a super band a few years ago (bullet for My valentine + cancer bats) called axewound that was pretty good. Really angry stuff. A lot of it is too angry for me, but there are some solid tracks on that album.
