Modern progressive metal

Over the weekend, I went to a Periphery concert, supported by SiKth, CHon, and Toothgrinder. I listen to a few djent bands, but haven't really delved into "traditional" progressive metal until listening to these guys. I've really enjoyed Toothgrinder and Red Seas Fire, in particular.

I already listen to Gojira, Opeth, Revocation, little Meshuggah; what are some of y'all's favorite prog bands?

Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed red seas fire! I went to a Mastodon concert, Gojira opened and I really enjoyed them too. I don't know my genres but I'm more of a megadeth, testament, exodus kinda person. How would one classify those?

All 3 of those are considered thrash. You should definitely check out revocation, they seem like they'd be right up your alley.

Interesting. I hear about PTH frequently, but I haven't actually listened to them until now. The vocals remind me of A Day To Remember.

I've never heard of that website. Looks pretty intense, but somehow they don't have a single djent band. They have Revocation, but no SiKth, TesseracT, or Periphery. And that makes me very sad.

This probably doesn't count as modern, but big Opeth fan here.
Blackwater Park, Ghost of Perdition, and Deliverance are probably their most prog metal-like songs, but if you stick to the albums they're from there's some more selection too. It's the kind of band that has a ton of genre variety and evolves a lot.

Damnation is my favorite album they've put out but it's really not prog metal

I love Opeth. I've only listened to Blackwater Park, but that is one of the best albums ever made, in my opinion. Their guitar tone is freakin perfect, IMO.
