We, uh, we won't talk about what I'm running it through. My bass setup is NOT worthy of this thing. I'm basically running it through a practice amp until I can get a proper rig. I'm primarily a guitarist, so yeah.

That said, I really enjoy playing bass, and have had a crush on Rickys since I knew what they were. This one came up on Craigslist for sub $2k, and for a vintage, I couldn't pass that up. There's some buckle rash and scraping on the back of the body, but over all, she's pretty clean. Not cherry, but for a 42 year old instrument, she's purty.

Setup is bang on, and I love the neck. Some people apparently hate em, but that just don't make a lick of sense to me.

I am gonna get a treble bezel on the bridge pickup, just so my thumb isn't falling into that cavity when I'm playing finger style. Don't really want the original cover back on, though.

Jumped straight into this thread hoping it was in the B/S/T Misc section; I want one of those SOOOOO bad.

Nice pick up man, very very nice bass. I had a 4004 some time ago and Rick has probably the best neck profile ever.

That's super cool. Like you, I'm primarily a guitarist but dabble with bass (mostly for recording).

On the subject of rigs; if you have an iphone, you should check out jamup. It's a really cool amp modeler that actually sounds really good. You can also get Bias FX on PC/Mac if you'd prefer. I have both.

We should have a guitar/bass rig showoff thread.

Nice catch.
I'm of the opinion that Rickenbackers are just... ugly. But they make up for it in sound, and some love how they feel. Haven't had the chance to try that out.
I'd be more adamant about that if they made anything in my beloved short scale. Those made going from being a mediocre-at-best guitarist to a passable bassist easy.

These are definitely more of a bassist's bass. My Ibanez Mikro seems perfectly happy to let me at it with a pick and play it like fumbling an oversized guitar, but a Rickenbacker rewards someone that can really treat it like a bass.

I love the shape of Rickenbackers. They're definitely love/hate, but I'm square in the former category. I personally much prefer full scale basses. I tried the short scale thing, and it felt kinda off to me. But the vintage 4001's definitely have a sound. Their neck pickup is POWERFUL. What my P-Bass aspires to be. But the bridge pickup is puny. Apparently there's a capacitor in the circuit for some reason that robs the low end from the bridge pickup.
