So wait. You had a mini and bought a Rize?.. Are they really that different?

Pretty Mini, btw.

That makes more sense. I hoped you were a better person than to corrupt the youth before their first birthmus.

Yea, sorry to throw a wrench in.

I bought the Rize and am keeping it. I found the Mini GS cheap on CL over the weekend and have cleaned it up, re-lubed it, made sure everything worked, and am hoping to send it on to a loving new home and put a little walkin around money in my pocket at the same time.

That answer was one billion times better than what I was expecting. 100000 bonus points for parental/kid team work! And Happy birthday!

If you get a chance to compare the two, you should let us know the observations... you know, to keep on topic or whatever.

I didn't get to shoot the Mini a whole lot; just once to make sure it was shooting about the right speed, and once for a shooting video for the buyer. My buddy bought one last time we were at the field though and we're going to play tomorrow, so I might be able to switch with him for a game.

The things I did notice are a little superficial but here goes:
  • If you need to make an adjustment to the feedneck tightness on the Mini you have to do so with an allen key. Whereas on the Rize there is enough slack when it's open that you can adjust it by spinning the lever.
  • This one is really nit-picky I know.... But the LED on the Mini GS is so EFFING bright! It's literally uncomfortable to look at. I'd turn the gun on, and have spots in my vision when I looked away.
  • This goes for both the Mini GS and the Rize, but the rubber grip cover is slack in spots leaving an opening for moisture/dirt/paint to get into where the battery and board are. It be nice if the grips fit tighter or had a gasket or something.
One other thing I thought I noticed but I'm not sure of, was that my friend's Mini GS seemed to shoot straighter for a longer distance; up and down, not side to side. I'll have to check into this more tomorrow. It almost seemed like the shots from my Rize had a front spin on them, whereas his seemed to shoot laser straight. I'll check this out more tomorrow.

Nix, try swapping out the barrels on the Mini and the Rize. Chances are that the bores may have a slight difference with the same paint. That, or you are using different paint and the barrels have a wee bit of gunk in em.

As for debris getting up into the board, you could try finding some thin weather stripping to close those gaps.

While we're talking about fun new purchases, guess what's new in my world!

I have no idea what I'm getting myself into, but I believe I'm becoming a mechanical man.

Edit: That's inaccurate. I do have an idea of what I'm getting into thanks to the internet and hours of misspent free time. What did people do with themselves before YouTube?

It will be a couple of weekends before I can get out and play, so I'm just sharing the good news at this point.

Happy times!
