5 year break & I'm thinking about getting back into the sport. How's the scene?
Hey y'all! I haven't had the chance to play at all the past 4 or 5 years. Joined this forum 8 years ago and was playing a decent amount back then. I just graduated from college fairly recently and finally have a little extra spending money after getting a job. I was considering getting back into the scene but I was just wondering how it is. Is paintball in decline or has the sport grown the past few years? I sold 80% of my gear but have a few beater markers and half finished projects boxed up somewhere. I might try hitting up my local field sometime soon once I'm cleared by my doc (had a labrum repair recently).

I think most would say the sport has leveled out. It exploded, then declined. Now its steady but feels much smaller that when I started in 2002.
Now old and project marker are the way to go, at least on mcb. Bring your old and tired markers.

Its not what it used to be, i think even more kids stay indoors than they used to..and a lot of the fields just get shut down for one reason or another and people realize it isn't worth trying to operate one.
But there are people playing and having a great time just like they used to.
I just can't help but like the guns.

Where's Tug Contest Winner
For the most part, paintball is still paintball. Although, the game seems to be more segmented these days into different play styles than I remember from years ago. Where you'd typically see the same collection of markers at the field, there are now more people bringing pump guns, magfed guns and more mechanical guns than in recent years. Companies like Planet Eclipse and Shocker have even started releasing mechanical guns like the CVO, Emek and the M170r. For a while, people were taking guns like the Gtek and swapping out the frames and electronics for mech frames. Pump play was going strong for several years and it still is to an extent. Magfed seems to be growing and just like the mechs I mentioned, Planet Eclipse is getting into magfed too with the upcoming MG100. I guess people got tired of playing recball like the "pros" and realized that shooting ropes on a rec field was a bit overkill.

It’s probably easier just not to bother...
Like, if we’re being honest.

Hey TrueTexan ... Paintball in San Antonio is going strong. Xfactor Paintball Park is crowded with both recball and tournament players every weekend. Let me know if you want to get into tournament practice, my team Dragoons is always looking for new players.
