one of the locals at my field is an electrical engineer and built us a series 'tower flag' stations. Basically its a 4x4 post about 4' tall with two big buttons, one red button one blue button, when you press your teams button the top of the post has an LED lamp that glows that teams colour. It had one of those bases with the spikes so you can stab in the ground and place it wherever. he built three that could be linked, when all were controled by the same team a timer would start with the goal of holding control until the timer expired, loose a station and the timer would pause until a team took all three again.

Same dude built us a programmable 'bomb' in a case, the host could set whatever 4 digit code he wanted to arm/disarm as well as a series of wires (10 I think) you could program one as a disarm wire but pull the wrong one and the 'bomb' would go off. games had objectives like find the code, clues (like witch wire to pull or part of the code), bomb location ect before the bomb went off.

I've always seen it set up this way, albeit typically not 12 feet up. Just a basic "Short" flagpole.

Only other ones I'd seen were a sort of pin wheel with painted markers or flags on the ends. Marker pointed upward is the team in command of the post.

slapsticks are the best option for 2 colour flag stations imo

I still think there's a market for a digital "slap stick" that incorporates a timer feature.

It could, of course, incorporate provisions for several different game modes into its design.

I have seen push sticks being used. A PVC pipe with a T on top. A piece of pipe that slips freely in the T with a cap on each end to keep it from sliding out out the T . Paint the sliding pipe the two team colors. Push the pipe to expose your teams color and hide your opponei.
