Quad ION project (Copied by admin from custom projects secion)

Posted on Custom PB markers on FB, posting it here as requested.

Good day,

I always wanted a Gatling style paintball marker ever since Predator in 1987... I have been playing PB since 93, looked into multiple spinning barrel projects and their challenges, more praise to you if you can make a revolving set of barrel to sling paint at high RPM from 1 barrel at at time, I didn't want to go that route.

I got my first ION in the 2007-2008 or so, played with it, worked fine, upgraded it with all kinds of parts... found out it was flimsy AF, its guts were fragile, not super efficient but not bad, tons of aftermarket parts were available, in the end of the the ION era you could build an ION without any ion parts... anyhow, I picked up multiple ION's along the way for low $, often broken or missing parts. that was the perfect base of project and still to this day a very nice and simple modular marker to start projects from.

Several years ago I had an idea, why not build a multi barrel marker, not a Gatling, something that what would fire out of 2 nah, 3, nah...4 barrels? OK... all at once or in sequence? YES.

2017: Drawings, gathering of parts

2018: Machining, more parts gathering, testing, electronics

2019: Programming, more machining, 3d printing, finishing
unveiled on June 10 2019 at Commando PB in Ottawa Ontario during their DDAY Tippmann Challenge.

Quad ION

ION firing cans (not XE), feedneck thread was needed

GOG QEV's

AirTac solenoids

Arduino quad SSR relay board

Arduino Nano for the firing system

ATTINY85 boards for the loaders

Halo B loaders guts

Stock ION regulators

MettleAir manifold for the regulators

Parker 5/32 (4mm) airline and

Engineering aluminum rail frame

Some CNC, Mill, Lathe work.

milled down ION grip frame, custom electronic trigger.

Custom 3D printed hopper lid made of PETG

3S1P(~12V) 1800mah 45C LIPO battery

plenty of wiring of various gauge,

switches, project boxes, fuses, etc

2 x 90ci 4500psi tanks

2 x remote lines

Marker dry weight: 20.5 lbs

Onboard paint ~700 rounds

Maxxloader adds 2000 rounds

I load 1 case and 1 bag at a time for simplicity sake, I prime the marker's loader right away with a bag to lessen the loading time by the Maxxloader.

Total weight with paint ~60 lbs.

First, this is ridiculous so I love it
Is there 2 loaders or 4 in there? If 2, how did you split the feeds?

And how do you Chrono this thing?

Chrono? I'm guessing that's what the intense amount of switches are for? Turn on one ion throw over the chrono, rinse and repeat for the next barrels?

4 haloB with magna drives. Think of it as 4 funnels into 4 mgun... In this case ION firing cans.

Chrono, exactly as ChoSanJuan described, stop the loaders, stop the solenoids of 3/4 of them, Chrono one, change.. repeat.

Good day,
Awesome work!! You didn't simply just tie four markers together but, you managed to make it look good as well (especially the hopper section).

Do those markers still have their eyes? It's hard to tell from the photos.

And yes, I too demand a video- this would also help answer the question as to whether they fire cyclically or all at once.
