PA bill HB2216 seeks to ban imitation firearms

Just like previous states have tried to pass before, Pennsylvania has proposed a bill that would ban the use and sale of imitation firearms. The wording in the bill would affect both airsoft and paintball.

The wording of the bill can be found here: https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs...r=2216&pn=3140

There is also a petition against the bill here: https://www.change.org/p/pennsylvani...me&utm_term=cs

Mods, please delete if this post crosses the no politics rule.

Jersey already passed this....

Listen I'm against milsim paintball so fine by me.

Also if you want to be totally horrified go to an airsoft field and be surrounded by chest high kids in full tactical gear going on and on about the latest and greatest military gear.

Would this affect most most paintball markers anyways? An autococker (or insert marker of choice) doesn’t exactly look like a firearm anyways.

Personally I find milsim type markers and airsoft in poor taste.

Speaking from a purely intellectual standpoint, I don't understand the real-world benefit of bills like this. I get laws about real guns. I mean, when someone shoots up a school with an AR-15, it makes logical sense why a politician would try to do something to prevent that from happening again. But replicas? What good does it do to ban them? Are people actually holding up banks with fake guns with enough frequency to demand this type of attention?

It's more about LEO's thinking little Timmy has real steel and shooting him meanwhile he was running around with his buddies playing

"Imitation firearm." An object or device reasonably capable of being mistaken for a genuine firearm.
That is a very vague definition that can be interpreted differently by different people. Someone may think anything with a tube and a grip could be a firearm. Someone else may see the feedneck or airline as making it not qualify.

Aren't there videos of police mistaking wallets in guy's hand as a pistol? As far as the 10 yr old or younger playing with a 1 to 1 replica in the street seems way more like a parenting issue than a manufacturing one. How many of the little Timmys buy these for themselves? I have more to say on all this but can't think of a way to do so without crossing into politics.

Also consider how even some stock class markers could fall under this rule. There’s no hopper or tank visible on them, so something like a 007 could be considered to be a restricted item. It’s not just the tacticool markers.

There was definitely a kid that was 14 years old that was shot in Tempe last year with an airsoft pistol replica of a 1911 that made national news. Cop couldn't tell the difference and had to treat it as a real threat.
