Another thing to think about, when using raw, is forward compatibility. If you keep all of your files as their original extension (like .NEF for Nikon) you have to make sure that whatever format you choose to use if going to be accessible in the future. There's nothing to say that Nikon won't change this in the future (or canon or sony or fuji, etc). Adobe addressed this issue by creating the .DNG format. Some cameras (Leica, DJI) shoot to this format by default. Others can be converted in Lightroom so you know they'll always be accessible be it 2 years or 20 years in the future.
