before you go mirror less do your research. some brands might be cheap then other other might be more then other. find medium ground on what you can afford to spend and what you can not afford to spend. the way in what options you get with each one. do you need high megapixel or that middle ground. also d80 makes a great starter camera to learn off of too.

I was at the store today..

The Canon t6 has a lot of great reviews as a starter camera and realistically, I'm a starter. However, I just don't want to lug around a DSLR camera. It screams, "pay attention to me, I'm a hipster!" Or Asian tourist in NYC.

I'd rather the same quality (or better) from a mirrorless that fits a lot more conveniently on my person.

The other problem is:
T6 - $399
Sony a6000 - $499

Sony's are great, however Alpha lenses are pricey, like stupid pricey. They are great glass but man...
I want to upgrade myself, the T6 is tempting but the T6i is head and shoulders ahead.

I did like the price tag on the t6... When going to the t6i.. I'm back at the top of my budget and both have weaker specs than the a6000 and the Olympus dm10. I'll check a few others out, feel free to recommend other options $500 and under!
Hope to buy tomorrow.

Thanks!

I have had my Canon T3i for a few years now, and have been pretty pleased. Very responsive and takes great pictures. Granted I am no expert, I took a class in college, but just for fun. To be honest I have it on auto more than half the time.

My girlfriend recently bought a t4i with the lens kit (18 to 75 and 75 to 250). She's been happy with it so far and paid $350 for it with a couple other things thrown in. She does have to shoot in viewfinder mode and has a hard time seeing what she's actually shooting as the live view mode is too slow. Couple pics of her recent shots. She's only been doing it for a month now.

That top shot with the motion blur is pretty bad ***. That's a hell of a job tracking a moving subject

Yeah she got that this past weekend in 20 degree weather. It's her best one yet. It's a lot of practice, skill and luck for sure.

I'll second this comment. With my t3i, i don't hardly use the live view screen because it's definitely laggy. And using it causes the picture to not capture right away, half second delay or so. I've gotten used to using the viewfinder though, and prefer it now. I just have to take a couple test pictures and view on the screen to make sure the settings look good since changing ISO and shutter speed and stuff isn't visible in the viewfinder (this is probly total noob banter)

Yeah, i end up taking a butt ton of pictures and scroll through them on the spot, and delete half of them pretty much right away. If i was a better photographer i'd probably be able to use the camera to it's full potential, but my current procedure is more of a spray-and-pray approach

She took over 1800 photos 1 day for speedball practice and got maybe 400 usable pics. Definitely takes some getting used too.
