Finally upgrading my PC. Excited

So finally got around to buying new parts for my PC.

Ryzen 1600 (Will be Overclocked of course )
MSI Tomahawk Motherboard
16GB DDR4 3200

Only downside is I'm gonna be running with an HD 4870 that got donated to me. I have no idea if it even works, and if it does then my daughter still won't be able to play her Jurassic Park game as it needs DX11, and this only has DX10 d'oh.

Well...This will be my fastest CPUs since having an overclocked i5 2500K that I sold years ago. Should be a very nice machine for doing software development work on, as I'm getting rusty and need to get my skills up to speed again.

Graphics card prices are nuts at present so unlikely to be gaming myself anytime soon lol.

Nice! Past gen prices are decent for buyers on gpus. I've seen gtx 980's going around 200$ used, still a hell of a card!

I had been eyeballing the Ryzen 7 for some time. When the 3 dropped, I picked up a 1200 for the HTPC. It is super impressive, particularly when you factor cost. You won't be disappointed in the CPU performance.

Much like you, and with the mining craze, I haven't gotten a new GPU for this and am using a 750ti....you can source them sub $80 and will do an impressive job gaming at 1080 with this CPU.

Yeah, so much innovation has happened with the last few video card releases - my 960 can even run most things moderately well. I remember when the 970 came out, it was heralded (rightfully so) as a huge revolution in bang-for-the-buck performance. A 9xx card of any kind will at least get you to the point of being relevant and they're pretty affordable. My 2500k @ 4.8ghz usually ends up being the bottleneck.

I've got a 6700k ocd to 4.8 steady. 16 gig of ram. i built this for photo editing and it does quite well. I grabbed a used 750 ti of my buddy for nothing. and this setup holds a steady 60 fps on the new doom. some others i only get around 30. but for an old card it holds its own.

Will be keeping my eyes peeled for a reasonable card. I am annoyed with myself that I didn't grab something like a R9 290 when they were going for around $100 a few months back (used prices), before the mining craze happened. Now they are at least double the cost.

On the plus side, the CPU and motherboard were very good prices for what you get, I'm sure I'm going to be very happy. The memory was expensive, but I definitely wanted more than 8GB so had to get what I knew would work and pay the price ($150 ouch). Should be good for doing everything I can throw at it CPU/Memory wise

It's impossible to find a card at a reasonable price right now because coin miners have discovered that they're the bet way to find coins, in terms of power usage and processing power.

I'm still rocking a 3770 and a GTX780.
Overclocked a bit, still no reason to upgrade.

A GTX980 is a great card.
Sadly SLI seems like it is forgotten, dual 980's is impressive when it works.

Are they again now? Interesting how that ship sailed about 4 years ago and has come back to harbor...
