Somehow I managed to get my GTX 970 to 120+ FPS on COD:WWII

I was reluctant to purchase WWII after seeing all the reports of people having problems running previous gen processors and GPUs. The fact that the minimum requirements didn't include any AMD FX processors really had me worried because I'm still running an FX8320.

After researching graphics settings, and learning about everything that was included visually in WWII, I committed and purchased.

4GB of VRAM seemed like more than enough for high texture and resolution settings, so I dug deeper into the settings to disable some "not so needed" bling. Bye bye shadows, bye bye water reflection, bye bye v-sync.

I haven't experienced any of the "screen tearing" or "freeze ups" that anyone said they were experiencing with their GTX 970, nor the horrible frame rates (35 FPS seemed like something else was wrong).

I ran all night last night with no drops below 120 FPS, which I am OK with.

I have to ask....what kind of screen are you using that 120FPS is actually worthwhile to you?

Dayum!

I heart AOC monitors. Bang for buck is truly there.

A friend of mine had been trying to convince me to upgrade to something at 144Hz for years. I'd been using the same 24" HP 1444X1920 for 10 years, and didn't really think I needed anything better, but was absolutely blown away at what a different experience a higher refresh rate was.

My PC is a different beast now. This is the third franken-upgrade I've done to it over the last three years, which included an upgrade to a Corsair H80i double radiator water cooler, an EVGA GTX 970 SSC, and the AOC monitor.

I had been running a EVGA GTX 960 SSC, but found the 970 at microcenter as an open box for $150 which included the factory warranty.

I am an internet bully, but this will be just criticism of Activision. I made fun of a guy ~10 years ago for dual sli'ing just for COD, when my GFX was worth half as much as one of his and could play it at max settings with consistent fps.

I'm going to make a lot of assumptions because I doubt Activision would make their games nicer for their PC ports.

You won't need more than 4gb of ram unless you're playing a game that's a huge sandbox with 4k textures, like a heavily modded Skyrim. If COD offers Ultra quality for textures the best ur getting will probably be 1k for character models and 2k for background stuff or vice-versa.

120Hz/144Hz and 5ms< response is really nice and great if you have insane reaction speed and want to play competitively, but COD servers are garbage and those won't help you much. Let people pay for their own dedicated servers already ACTIVISION!

Even if a new console generation is released around 2020, your 970(great snag btw I got my Asus 980 strix full retail) will still probably be able to handle games at max settings @ 60fps. I'm planning to blow all my money on SSD's rather than a new GFX.
