I just fired off an email to a friend of mine that drives bus charters and if there was enough interest I could secure transportation down and back for the weekend...it's only a 5 hour drive or so, and if he's willing to drive it himself the expenses would only be for the vehicle rental, fuel (both at cost) and a weekend registration for him and his son. Plus, with the bus coming from a depot in Richmond Hill, we could arrange for a few pickups before we hop the border (I was thinking something like Vaughan Mills, Yorkdale, Square one and somewhere in Hamilton)

I'm more then willing to help organize this end of it if there's enough interest. It would either be a coach bus, filled to capacity, or a school bus with 2/3rds of the seats booked, to allow the last few rows to store gear bags...I'm just waiting to get a cost breakdown for both options. But if we get some firm commitments once I have pricing we can pre-register for the event as well and book a bunkhouse for the Ontario contingent. Plus, since I'm sure with a busload of ballers we could commit to at least 25 cases over the weekend, that will drop the cost down to $70/2000.

I'll update here once I get a response with bus costs.
If anyone here is interested in getting on board once I have pricing info, post here and I'll keep a running list. FYI, once I have pricing info I'm gonna PM anyone who expressed interest first with the cost, so they have first choice. Afterwards, I'll public update it here and spots will be on a first come, first serve basis, since I'll only be able to commit to the price for one full bus. Translation: if you're planning on filling half a bus with your team, you better have the cash for a deposit!

Lets see if there's interest :)

Moosepatrol 05-02-2008 08:04 PM

Oh a bus ride to castle drinkng beer and watching movies. Does it get any better. I'm in.

Neo_samurai 05-02-2008 10:06 PM

I'm in... maybe with an extra

Harbinger[TG] 05-03-2008 04:06 PM

You should copy this into the Canada Regional Section

Skippy 05-03-2008 05:46 PM

Hells yes.

Marauder_Pilot 05-04-2008 12:31 PM

I'm all over this like a fat kid on a sundae, as will my roommate most likely. We'd have to bus/train/hitchhike up (I wonder what our chances of getting picked up are if we're standing on the side of the road with our KPs...I'm sure those nice men driving the Crown Victorias with the flashy lights will be happy to oblige :p), but still.

Jon. 05-19-2008 04:48 PM

This looks pretty cool, any updates on it yet?

ROOKIE 05-20-2008 08:19 PM

This sounds like an awesome idea. I don't want to bring up bad karma, but do you think it would be hard to get across with a bus load of pb markers? I have never tried to cross the ditch with my gear so I don't know how hard it is or what regulations or forms you have to follow. Has any one played south of the border before?

Skippy 05-20-2008 08:39 PM

If crossing the border with muzzleloaders is any indication, it's probably not that hard.

Moosepatrol 05-20-2008 08:46 PM

I think crossing the border with all of us and all our gear won't be a problem, it will all be declared anyways. Another board I post on has some guys who have gone so I'll ask them if anything specific is required.

There's gonna be about 100-ish Canadians crossing the border for D-Day this year, and we're not expecting any issues. We should be fine.

weekendballer 05-20-2008 09:31 PM

where would you be crossing into the states at?

Marauder_Pilot 05-20-2008 09:34 PM

Windsor or Niagara, most likely.

Neo_samurai 05-20-2008 10:56 PM

when do we have to give a definite answer by?

sparky 05-21-2008 10:11 AM

I'm still really watching this thread and trying to figure out a way to join you crazy people from Ontario.... I'm curious on the status myself.

Moosepatrol 05-21-2008 11:12 AM

Okay guys I asked for a quote from a bus charter that is local to me. The bus sizes vary but I asked for a quote on a 47 person charter leaving friday morning and leaving EMR at 5 p.m. sunday night. That will give us friday night, saturday's big game and the pump game on sunday. All of this is of course adjustable (meaning the times). I will post the cost when I receive the quote.

Fly WestJet into Toronto, I know they have seat sales a lot between the major cities. They've got a seat sale on right now that can net you a flight from Edmonton to Toronto for about $300, which is pretty good. I don't know how much it'd cost from Hinton to Edmonton, but I'm sure you've done that before anyways.

Sorry for the delay in response, I had a brain fart and forget I was looking into this! I did hear back from my mate, but he's out of the bus business so that nicked that idea. He did forward me onto a rep with his old company who was going to get a decent rate by declaring us a "non-profit" organization group. I haven't heard anything back yet, but I'll follow up with him on monday and see if i can get us a number and when we'd need an answer by!

Marauder_Pilot 05-25-2008 12:13 PM

Non-profit? Hell, with our collective tastes in markers, we're negative-profit!:p

Jon. 05-25-2008 08:09 PM

I know my buddy would like to go to this, if this trip gets organized I'd be driving from NB to wherever the bus is in Ontario, so I'd probably have 2 extra seats for carpooling.

weekendballer 05-25-2008 08:15 PM

if your crossing through windsor what are the odds you could pick up some michiganders?

RealtorTommy 05-25-2008 08:18 PM

swing by Florida while ya it............

Moosepatrol 05-26-2008 04:06 PM

Okay the bus line got back to me today with a quote. A 47 man bus there and back would cost 75.00 plus tax per person. One catch, they are booked solid and don't have any buses available. So price wise not too bad but trying to find a bus might be. Still looking...

sparky 05-28-2008 01:48 AM

Damm. That's a pretty awsome price too, it would be hard enough car pooling with people to make that kinda deal.

Marauder_Pilot 05-28-2008 10:46 AM

Yeah, you'd have to pack a small rental car full with 4 people to drive at that price, and the bus is WAY more comfy!

Moosepatrol 05-28-2008 11:49 AM

Small update, another bus line in contact, price was 82.00/ person, 47 man charter, they would be charging us for the hotel room for the driver as well. The buses that I have seen pictures for, yes roomy and the seats look like lazy boys. 5 LCD screens, bathroom, headphone jacks, oh yeah baby! One problem they are also booked for that weekend :censored:. So provided we can find a charter to book, we may need to fairly soon, have someone accept deposits from everyone going to book the bus. That way no one is sticking their neck out for a huge sum of money. What do you guys think?

Marauder_Pilot 05-28-2008 01:05 PM

I'm down with that.

Neo_samurai 05-28-2008 01:44 PM

defiantly in for the bus deposit system.

my buddies organize a yearly ski trip that involves a bus, that's usually reserved around September when the trip is in January, which means now's the time to book it. I think they go through greyhound, but I can double check if you want?

cheers

Moosepatrol 05-28-2008 02:17 PM

Definitely check Neo, :censored: completely forgot about greyhound.

Brick 05-28-2008 03:53 PM

Also just to point out, I think we would have to all pack somewhat Light. Alot of us are gunwhores, admit it, and I can't imagine having room for 5-6 guns each + gear if the bus seats are filled.

edit: Woops, missed page 3, I'm down for a deposit if we can find a company.

Marauder_Pilot 05-28-2008 04:26 PM

What? Pfft. I'm not coming then. :p

Neo_samurai 05-28-2008 04:32 PM

why don't get a bus and a 18 wheeler for all the gun whore's stuff? problem solved

Moosepatrol 05-28-2008 04:35 PM

All the buses I have looked at so far have enough room under the belly of the bus to carry roughly 2 large hockey bags per person, I think we are covered, except for maybe Frink and Sparky. They may have to get their own buses.

Marauder_Pilot 05-28-2008 04:41 PM

The bus has a rack. Worst comes to worst, they can put a bag of guns or two on their lap.

Hahaha that made my day. I only acually bring 2 markers with me.... most stay at home. I had to sig that.

I can put a deposit down, doesn't bother me any.

Frink 05-28-2008 05:24 PM

The airline will also be a bottleneck for us. I would never trust the airline with more than 2 markers at a time. What a horrible day that would be if my Palmers inventory was lost.

I'm still just a maybe, but I think I'll do a deposit anyway. If I don't go I can sell my seat or just eat the costs.

Marauder_Pilot 05-28-2008 05:27 PM

Well, the "personal friend" route hasn't panned out, so I've abandoned that...plus it would have been a school bus so less storage and comfort. It also looks like I'm going to have to back out as one of our pet cats fell from the 5th storey balcony on the weekend which has already cost me $1800 cdn in the past 3 days and it's looking to be a whole lot more.

Moose, since you're right on the ball I'm leaving this in your capable hands...just so that you're not wasting your efforts, these are the companies I've already tried to secure, but no luck as they appear to be booked for that weekend

Coach-Canada
Trentway-Wagner
Penetang Midland Coach

I completely overlooked greyhound, but being the largest I'd imagine they'd be the best bet.

Marauder_Pilot 05-28-2008 05:39 PM

Aww, man, that's rough. Hope the cat makes it through OK.

Moosepatrol 05-28-2008 11:12 PM

Hyjinx I feel for you, my lab has cost me about 400.00 in the last two weeks. But I love my dog and would spend it again in a heartbeat for her, hope the cat pulls through. I completely forgot about greyhound as well, how dumb is that? The biggest bus line out there. Anyway guys, three bus lines have returned quotes and they are all pretty close but they are all booked. I still have two more quotes to come back though. Sparky glad to help your profile.
