can give you a little extra volume behind the valve. i did all my ccms that way and the benefit was minimal.

I did a "volume" test with a 2k WGP body pump cocker. The results were that extra volume did not help at all.
-I used two valves, the CCM valve and the Rocket valve
-With the normal setup I sweetspotted both valves and noted the average FPS the guns were shooting
-I then removed the step in the air chamber that the valve spring rests against and re sweetspotted the valves - with the same hammer-spring-IVG setup (using no valve spring in any parts of the test), again noting the average FPS.
The extra volume did not give higher FPS for the same hammer-spring-IVG setup for either valves.
Needless to say I was very happy with the results as I would hate to have to bore out my bodies. Having only done the test once I would like to do it again at some point and see what happens.
I had also done another volume test using the CheckIt pump kit which has the the guide bored out like you are discussing - that I saw no benefit from which inspired me to go more extreme with taking a drill bit to the dump chamber.
