Longer pump return spring?

So I've just about finished up my Dragon sniper project, I just have a few small things to address. One of which (and the most obnoxious imo) is that when I installed my brand new CCM Deluxe kit, the pump handle has to be held roughly a 1/2 inch ahead of the spring. As in there is 1/2 of movement in the pump stroke before the handle makes contact with the spring.

The result is a horrible pump stroke. When cocked, the bolt leaves about an 1/8" gap into the feedneck. Ideally, I'd like something that would a) hold the pump handle firmly forward and create a decently strong seal between the bolt and the breach and b) have a nice and smooth pump stroke.

I have all stock internals. Bolt and lowers. My searches for "longer pump return spring" have been relatively unsuccessful. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Here's a comparison picture. The longer spring is the one from ACE hardware, and the shorter one on the right is the one that came with the CCM pump kit

Try stretching the spring you have, or head into a local Ace hardware. They've got a bunch of loose springs at Ace, one of which may, or maybe can be made to, work for you.

the amount of bolt in the breech is adjusted by lengthening or shortening the cocking rod. you can stretch the pump return spring. you should be holding the pump handle forward when shooting to keep the back block from moving back while firing

Do you have a shorter spring you could pop in the hollow? I've made it work with two springs before.

I ended up running out to ACE and buying a whole bunch of springs. I need to redo my internal springs anyways. Swapped in the new one into the pump grip and it feels great! Thanks everyone, I'll edit my first post with a comparison picture just for anyone's reference

You could have also used a nylon spacer from the hardware store. You can usually find them in different lengths. Some CCMs come equipped with them from the factory..

Thank's for your help everyone. I really like the pump stroke from the replacement spring, and at $0.60 a piece, I'm not complaining!

I am 99% sure that shorter spring is the hammer spring and not the pump return spring. The pump returns from CCM that I have seen have far fewer turns and are longer than that.

Interesting. This was definitely the spring that came when I ordered it, but what you're describing is completely possible since I bought the kit through a third party
