I have a bunch of the pocket model stuff before the Wizkids division was shut down by Topps. I thought it looked too similar a game. Is it much different? The models look much like the micromachines models back in the day. Might have to dig those out of the attic.

The models are much better compared to any other mini i have seen made before. pictures really dont do the detail justice.

^ I totally agree, a comment that covenant games made was " the closer you get to the model, the better it looks".

It's really fun. It can be frustrating if you roll like total crap 10times in a row. Which you will get with any game where combat is based on dice rolls. But it is pretty balanced as far as ship/pilot/upgrade choices go for both imperial and rebel sides. And there is a lot of nuance to maneuvering your fleet in combat to be able to shoot when the other side cant.

Basically, you build a fleet via point values, you have weapon upgrades, skills, and modifiers and other such items to upgrade your pilots and ships with. You can have different scenarios or just straight up brawls. It's a turn basis game that works like an initiative value. Lower pilot skill moves first, higher pilot skill moves second, higher pilot skill attacks first, lower pilot skill attacks second.

Each ship has individual maneuvers it can perform and not preform, making each ship individual which brings something different to the table. There are astromechs which can help the ship's performance at a small cost. Weapons are generally one time uses, however, a turret ( Y Wings!!! ) is not.

Generally, depending on the build, rebels have stronger sturdier ships that have shields. Empire ships are more manuverable and have more aggressive attacks. Some empire ships ( tie fighters ) are cheap in points cost and can be spammed. Rebel ships are more expensive but obviously last longer.

Ships available so far:

X wing
Y wing
A wing
HWK-290
Milenium falcon

Tie fighter
Tie interceptor
Tie advanced
Tie bomber
Lambda transport ship
Slave 1

My regular gaming friends have been playing it for a few weeks, haven't had the chance myself yet. I do know it's a bit spendy.

Isn't every miniature game? I'll admit, $10-30 for a ship + shipping does get the wallet thinner, but paintball does it as well.

It is faaaar cheaper than most miniature games. putting together a standard size warhammer 40k army can cost upwards of $1k when its all said and done. most of the sets of 5 or 6 dudes are like $60. With Xwing the starter set is $40, single small ships are $15 and medium ships are $30. all of which are 30% off if you order through some online retailers like miniature market.
