Cribbage is another great card game for (as few as) two people.

We play mostly easy to learn and easy to play. But we feel we could tackle some harder to learn easy to play games.

Thanks guys for all the support/ suggestions.

Late on this post I know but

My wifes current favorites are
Castles of Burgandy - https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/...stles-burgundy
Lords of Water Deep - https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/...ords-waterdeep

but they are on the bottom edge of medium weight complexity, easy 2 player only games that are really great
7 Wonder Duel- https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/...7-wonders-duel
Patchwork (my 8yo daughter likes playing this one to)- https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/163412/patchwork

Jump Drive is also a great comboriffic 10 min filler game that you can rinse and repeat multiple times-

Great thread.

My wife and I have played a lot of Blokus. We have a two player variant which I couldn't find on Amazon just now; maybe one of the other versions is conducive to 2 player. If you get creative, you can also make the vanilla game work for two player by blocking off sections of the game board.

Stratego is a bit of a throwback, but we enjoy that. Memorizing / recalling what each piece can do is a bit frustrating for the first couple of games, but after that it's smooth sailing.

Here's a shameless plug for good old chess and checkers.

Finally (for now), if trading card games have ever caught your interest, most franchises / games offer "duel decks". Magic comes to mind first, but there are definitely other games that have the same type of offering. They're pre-prepared decks built to be competitive against each other, and usually don't invoke too crazy game mechanics.

Its still very random but with your choice of player powers and the boss count down it only takes about 20 to maybe 30 min to get a game in.

I always suggest Backgammon since its less frustrating for newer players against higher level players as you wont "always" lose against stronger players.
