MTG: How to value cards?

Simple question, but probably not a simple answer:

How do you place a reasonable value on MTG cards?

There is a game store owner three hours away who really wants to see/buy my old cards. However, how do I realistically assign a value and make sure I don't get hosed on a deal?

(I had originally been told that she is a collector. In her email she states that her "collection" is an investment. Those two are not the same in my book.)

What sites do you trust for real values? How do you assign condition and then what (if any) is the normal markdown for each condition?

Looking forward to a few answers.

How old are the cards you have that you are looking to get rid of?

Age can definitely be a factor like rangerjim said. I personally use TCGPlayer for card value and MTGStocks to track value, and I think most people use TCG as well.

Do you have any pictures of the collection? Knowing what you have would help a lot.

I don't deal with conditions too much, but as long as they aren't super heavily played or have gone through the washing machine the value should be fine.

I like using starcitygames.com
I have bought from them, and they seem to keep realistic prices

To recap a several years old topic: I do not have a huge collection. All of my normal cards fit into a cheese box. That said, the majority of my cards are at least 24 years old.

FYI: Another MCB member called dibs a couple of years ago if I decide to sell any cards.

I just want to know how to place a value on each card.

Thank you for reminding me of this site. It is in a format I easily understand. But, yikes... Those prices!

When I sold my collection I had many “collectors” offer me insulting prices. The store owners were the worst. One guy even offered me $250 for a collection that was valued in the thousands. If you can sell them to a collector you know or someone who won’t try to screw you.

TCG and SCG are the two big sites for pricing, shifting more towards to TCG.

What i’d like to know is how people gage the cards value moving forward.

Right now sliver queen is worth $200+
A year ago is was $80
When I bought it, I was in awe I was spending $25 on a card.
