walkie talkies?

Any suggestions on some decent ones and head sets to use for big games and scenario play?

I've had the best luck with ear mics, unless you are willing to let everyone hear the open speaker.

The Nautico Marine radios on low power have good range in pine trees, but they are open channel for anyone listening. The filtered motorolas get hung up in pines and are basically open channel also.

ah, here we go...

FYI, it is illegal to use VHF radios on land so you better be treading water.

It's illegal to do a lot of things that people do with radios for paintball.

Basically the only legal radios to use without a license are the FRS paired ones. Otherwise you need to go through the process of getting a license for GMRS and follow all the requirements/privileges that are granted with the license.

GRMS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General..._Radio_Service

If someone is listening and they are grumpy, they can and will report you... having the FCC come down on you for operating without a license is not cheap!

As to what FRS radio to get... I liked the Motorolla talkabout I had years ago. They were affordable and you could get accessories cheaply.

I hear if you get a moose to stand still you can use it's antlers as an antenna!

I have no idea on the laws in Canada.... the link I provided said you don't need a license in Canada to operate GRMS, but that doesn't mean you don't need one for other frequencies. Operating HAM equipment for paintball and other non-HAM use is still against the law just about anywhere.

You can just pick up a couple FRS radios at wal mart, or you can step up a bit and get handheld CB radios, or you can get a license and use vhf/ham.

There is no law against using hams for "non ham use," whatever that means. If everyone is licensed you can pick an available simplex frequency and chat away. The advantage of ham is that you get way more power and clarity.

It's a bit more complicated than that. This is the chart that allocates bands in Canada. There is no law against transmitting on any channel an FRS or CB is capable of.
