Elbow grease + time = shiny.

Well yes I assumed this much

But like what tools were used? Polishing compounds, what to use for the inner corners, that sort of thing

I've only polished 1 brass marker and the results were ok at best

I think my arm would fall off trying to achieve this with elbow grease alone.

I’d expect they used a buffing wheel on a bench top grinder and a lot of red paste. That works on anything. Remember when iPods used to have those shiny stainless backs? Those were all buffed by hand in a small factory in Japan, every one of them, with a wheel.

Okay, I was less than helpful.
Super fine grit sandpaper or a scotchbrite for the really rough spots if necessary, then a buffing wheel with some sort of polishing agent. I like Brasso myself, but everybody has their own favorite.
Even with a wheel it still takes a lot of time. Enough time that I'm not much of a fan of polishing things.
