PMI USP Upgrades

Picked up a PMI USP from bacci for his 4th of July sale, just wondering what I should do to upgrade it off the bat?

I already picked up some neoprene intimidator detents to replace the stock one. Should I pick up a phantom spring and parts kit to replace the main spring + puncture/cupseal?

I'm also considering replacing the stock changer with a 3/4-16 bolt for easier 12g change. Might also look into getting my buddy to freak bore it the barrel.

Thoughts?

Yep.

USPs are just piranha STBBs that have been customized and cut down. They don't really need much other than a pierce pin once in a while. Talk to Chaos, he mods the crap out of pistols and would be a good resource for you.

I'd chop the feed half way and fit an oring or set screw for cram n jam action

Freak for sure, if it's possible

Dye stickies as well!

I snagged one of these recently as well, cheap enough to play around with. I've got a broken lever changer I'm going to integrate and was planning to freak-bore - keep us updated how that goes!

Small things I also plan -

The ball follower in the magazine would bind less if it were made of delrin.
The feedgate on the magazine has an unnecessary oring (way too stiff to turn), it's much more usable with that removed. There is a ball-detent that gives a satisfying click when the gate is closed, but it's missing an equivalent notch for the open position (can actually open TOO far on mine and block reloading.) Simple fix with a drill-press to add another dimple.

Hope you don't mind me piggy backing on your thead, have been tinkering with the USP lately too.

Any idea how to remove the magazine follower? Is the little knob threaded or pressed in? I want to address the sticky follower, but don't want to destroy the thing and it's the only part of the marker you can't really remove.

Found most of the parts to rebuild mine, FYI action village has 12g pierce assemblies right now. Found a donor all metal piranha with a double trigger frame to steal. Would prefer the single metal frame but those seem oddly hard to find.

Really want a vertical fore-grip but failing to come up with a solution at the moment.

I'm surprised these don't pop up more often for sale, even as parts/repair/broken. I bought mine at Dicks sporting goods, they were pretty common and easy to find when new.

^The little knob on the follower is threaded,it's a PITA to remove,I suspect theres Locktite on it.I hear you the follower, I polished mine. Also swapped out the spring
I put a Piranha electro frame on mine also making it FA

Unfortunately I lost the rear cap/velocity adjuster so it's inoperable ATM
I'd like to find a silver one and redo my build

What feed spring did you use? I have a Rap4 T68 mag here that I tried the spring out of, it's too large in diameter and too long. Easy enough to cut it down, I don't know if I'll get away with trying to wind it smaller.

I can tell you the rear plug/velocity adjuster is not the same as a Spyder. I tried a metal Spyder plug to further remove more plastic from the thing, doesn't fit at all. The donor Piranha has a thumb wheel adjuster, but has rear cocking so the whole assembly is a little different.

^I belive it was either a DAM mag or 1st gen Zeta spring
I cut so many things up for projects I cant keep track
Backplug is definitely WAY different Im going to have to suck it up and buy a donor gun someday...
