Yep, I've had officers that I would charge a machine gun for and on the same token I've had some I would've loved to follow into a room with a 1lb metallic baseball.
The difference is the few good ones knew
the reality of things and acted like they were one of us. They asked us for input and more importantly listened
and acted upon what we said.
The bad ones were your typical sliver spoon fed clowns that thought they were Maverick from Topgun and the only thing they care about was that annual Officer Evaluation Report and their numbers.
Unfortunately, in today's climate the latter vastly outnumbers the former and it's a direct result of our current OPTEMPO from fighting 2 wars (and multiple side conflicts).
In all fairness, the same can be said of the current enlisted pool due to recruiting practices.
