68 Special trigger issue

Hey all, I have a 68 Special that I'm trying to get up and running. It doesn't leak, and it cycles. But every time the hammer comes back and catches on the sear, the trigger doesn't reset. I have to nudge the hammer back a bit for it to shoot again. The sear contact point on the trigger looks pretty worn. The previous owner stuffed some cardboard or something beside the sear to try to get rid of the side to side slop. IDK if either of those 2 things are factors here. I don't have much experience working on these, so any help would be appreciated.

Brass and Wood Fan
Take a look at the trigger return spring. If I recall, it's supposed to be really stiff by today's standards so if it's been tinkered with, maybe someone cut it down to lighten it up. I am guilty of doing such thing before and I had the same issue. Smoothing out the back of the trigger surface wouldn't hurt while your at it.

are you using siphon CO2? Although some specials run on gas CO2 just fine, the valve was designed as a wet valve, meaning it likes liquid CO2.

I don't have have siphon tank, no. I am using a regular tank pointed down. But either way that shouldn't effect the trigger reset.

I know Bacci has replacement triggers, new and used.
Im sure the cardboard is causing the reset problem, but there shouldnt be that much slop.

Either the trigger is worn, or maybe the pin? You could try punching out the roll pin to check. Maybe its crushed? Most hardware stores have roll pins. While you are in there, good chance to see if the spring is working.

But yes, you will need a siphon. Its a pain these days to make, and/or find one. Then a bigger pain to get it filled, and to use properly. But once everything is working perfect, it is just amazing. The newbs will run away, in fear of the giant demon-cloud of co2 you will produce.

It appears the sear pin has bin has been replaced with a dowel pin.

I would build a siphon tank, but I have no idea where to find the materials to do so. Bacci is sold out of them. Is there a special process needed to fill a siphon tank? I'd be the one filling it, so that would be good info to have haha.

When you fill a siphon, you have to vent upside down. If you vent right side up, the siphon will spray the liquid out of the valve and the tank won’t chill. Otherwise fill is the same.

Our local field has some old siphon tanks. I can ask the owner if he’ll sell you one. Then just swap the valve to a new tank. Shoot me a pm if you want me to pursue it.

Ah, well I am a complete noob when it comes to CO2.

So, honest question; couldn't you bend the tube "down" instead of "up" to get it to feed liquid CO2?

Or is the whole assembly different.
