Recording from a webcam?

The TLDR version: I need a free program that will record from a webcam, while showing it on screen, and from a separate mic.
At the very least from the webcam; I can fire up Audacity alongside it for the mic, and then sync later, but that's not ideal.
I have access to Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, and it doesn't do it.

The long version: I'm making a pip-boy for an incomplete halloween costume, been delayed waiting for materials, again waiting for a card for the point-and-shoot, again because I recorded an intro and found that to be super grainy in video mode (got it on clearance, when 1080p was new on non-SLDR consumer cameras), again because I couldn't find the tripod...
So unless I start today and have a good time of it, it won't be done in time.
But I will get it done!

The easiest thing would be to see if your webcam has a proprietary software that allows it. I know Logitech does.

According to the connectors on the webcam you could use a capture card, generally used in "actual" camera applications.

My son used to use some capture program that would pretty much get whatever was on your screen...he used it for YouTube. IDK if Windows Movie Maker would do it or not.

I know on my mac, i can open quicktime (apple OS software) and tell it to start recording what's on the screen or even marquee a certain area on the screen to record.

cool little function, even if other people don't know they are being recorded while on my computer

You should be able to use OBS to record video straight from a webcam.

I have use https://obsproject.com/ for several projects, even using 2 or 3 different webcams

Yup, I've downloaded OBS. Will give that a shot.
Downloaded the Logitech software too, but haven't looked yet. I'll be trying OBS first, since someone mentioned it will encode to a lossless format for editing.
Haven't tried anything that's screen-only capture, because getting it straight from the camera would be unarguably better. I just need to actually see what it's recording, so I can adjust the camera.
