Angel LCD: The Covid Clarett

Gentlemen/Ladies,

Hope you are all doing good. If your ill, I wish you a speedy recovery. If your well, I hope it stays that way.

Due to COVID19, I am currently out of work. Which is "affording" me some time to get to my well overdue projects. I will be using this thread to catalogue my attempt at a restoration. I present you with my WDP Angel LCD that I procured from PBNation. My goal is to restore this LCD to working condition. It is/was a players marker - its got blemishes. I kind of like the patina that only use can provide.

I plan/hope to achieve the following:
  • Get it operational
  • Freak bore the factory barrel
  • Enjoy it

Currently need the following:
  • Clarett Back Plate / cover (x1)
  • Alignment pin for LPR and Valve (x1)

Today, I dusted everything off and began the "quick" task of removing the roto-breech for cleaning. This, of course, took about 4x more time than I originally budgeted. However, I was victorious. I plan on polishing up the breech retaining rods and then reinstalling with some lubrication.

Pulling the breech rods is probably the worst part about rebuilding an Angel, to be honest... kudos for getting them out!

“But Lord,” asked Gabriel, “Is this not too generous to these Canadians?”

Remove the set screw on the front and back of the body. Thread in an M2 screw and pull (do this once per side)

Use penetrating oil. Patience. Wood blocks. etc..

Ultimately, I had to use the M2 screw and tighten it down as far as I could. Then "open" the roto breech. Followed by hitting the breech away from the screw with a wooden handle of a hammer. The pin was seized into the breech (Not a thru-hole, each side is of the breech is bored about 3/8" - 1/2")

I guess it depends on your Angel, but for me it was quite a battle. The premise is easy, the execution is tough lol. Just keep a beer on hand and take your time.

I have an 05 Speed that I haven’t played yet, but the pins look a little crusty around the breech. Also picked up a CP reg adapter that I have to Cerakote to match as well. Sorry for thread jacking your build. I’ll post up a thread when my cure oven is complete. Thanks again for the tips and you have a fine project on your hands. Good luck!

Well, the breech rods are polished up and the rod channels are cleaned out.

Hit my first road block:

I had to use a left-handed drill bit to remove one of the set screws - so I need a replacement. From the manual it looks like.... maybe... the threads are BA (which is not the same as metric or SAE). I put out a life line to Dr.StrangeLove over on PbN. I'll update as I proceed.

I don't know if you are on facebook but there are two really good Angel related groups you can post in to see if anyone has Claret parts. If you can't let me know and I will post on your behalf
