    Budget tracker:
    - stock ion barrel from Ben's trailer: $10 ish?
    - 3D printed filament: i wont use much, so lets say 1/2 a spool to be overly generous $15

    The goal?
strap 2 of them together for a nice over/under double!

Next step: drilling 1 body through

Nice! Over-Under Enmey. Can't wait to see how you pack it all together. Going to be neat.

Clarence seems to miss quite a few days of work. So inconvenient. I have found that no matter what size of a machine you buy, the next job will be to big and wont fit. lol.

i started on a smaller lathe and im looking at the next one 🀣

I was gonna do it on the mill, but i haven't moved it to the new shop yet ... so lathe only for this one.

Started to dig around the pile'o'fittings and found this little tee, still need to figure something out for the main air ... Might have to make a custom one ...

And went through the box'o'clamp and found 2 used stainless beefy clamp, so it's due for another mandatory layout

    Good news!
I found a tool fairly obscure and forgotten by everyone other than old machinists and hobby makers: the tailstock center drilling fixture!
    I knew I had one ... somewhere ... and I found it πŸ₯³

So now I can finish this build without the mill πŸ˜…

"the tailstock center drilling fixture", I am trying to picture what this is but i am failing. I keep picturing a drill chuck in the tail stock but i have a feeling it's not that. Drill spindle for the tool post for drilling holes off-center?

A lathe have a thing that spin, and a thing that's fixed, traditionally, the part is stuck to the thing that spin ... but it doesn't have to be that way 😁
Lathe are the most versatile tools in teh machine shop, you can do anything with a lathe!

ill post picture when i have it in there πŸ‘

      Got the ports drilles yesterday.

StaticShocked here is a good picture of the tailstock center drilling fixture, its a vee block aligned with the axis of the lathe. you can clamp the part in it, ensuring the drilling is done on center.
For this, i need the outlet port exactly over the inlet, so i put a bolt in the inlet, hold the bolt in teh chuck and do a hand over and drill through:

The fitting are too large to fit in between, so the front port need to be relocated.
Made a plug and used teh same technique as before to drill and to teh new port

      Left to do:
      - custom fitting to connect the 2 bodies
      - assembly
      - test
      - use it in game πŸ˜β€‹β€‹

Thats a very handy piece of tooling! I have never seen one before and will have to keep my eye out at used tool sales. I have probably seen one but didnt know what it was. Thanks for showing it!

they're a bit old school nowadays and a relic of the olden days where mills, specially smaller ones, were not available and the only tool in the home shop was a lathe.
Its amazing how much one can do with a lathe and a bit of ingenuity
