My wife's spotify spit this this band at us one day when we were driving, and we really like them. Their lyrics and vocal melodies can be a bit generic/derivative in a way I can't quite put my finger on, but the guitar work and overall songwriting is cool.

The more generic stuff(which is still good, to be clear):

The same album has some more "progressive" stuff that I also really dig

3 of my favorite songs from an incredible diy punk band that has an incredibly diverse sound, with everything from blues, jazz, and country into their punk music.

    1) Something a little funky

    2) more of a jazz and blues feel I'd say:

    3) just kinda punk music?

Gotta love pogo. Most of his stuff is done on a PlayStation.

Tom Petty is perhaps the only death of a stranger that ever really gave me an emotional response. Wildflowers came out when I was a baby and was in regular rotation in my mom's minivan. I'll argue to the day that I die that he's the best American song writer and lyricist.

While it's not my favorite song by Kool G Rap, I think it's one of his most digestible songs so I'll share it. For those that don't know, KGR is what you'd call your favorite rappers favorite rapper. His wiki has a section of quotes from famous rappers like Biggie, Eminem, Jay Z, members of Wu Tang and Mobb Deep, Black Thought etc etc etc all credit him as a major influence or inspiration. He didn't just push the envelope in terms of storytelling, imagery, multisyllabic rhyming and metaphors, he did all those things while creating the New York gangster rap archetypes.

I could literally talk for hours about how we all owe him for what many people call the golden era of hip hop in the 90's. Also this song is fun because Nas looks like a baby in the video. Rant over... for now

Oh no doubts. I just told my son the same thing about listening to great songs a billion times makes them great still but.....old. New music that grabs your attention quickly is hard for me to find and this thread is doing a great job at that. Agreed on different strokes for different folks 100%. Still gonna throw some shade at stuff that I think is out there though. But. Ill stand here and admit.....everyone who has a song that people can listen to are amazing. Spreading their art to whomever digs it. More of that please.....

"Different strokes for different folks I suppose. There's a Finite supply of "great old Music" that stops sounding great after the umpteenth thousandth time. this thread has been great for finding some new sounds. I'm just glad to see there are still allot of great bands grinding it out and putting new spins on some great genres."
QFT. My taste keeps evolving, despite the constants, sometimes what catches my attention surprises me (hell the odd new Taylor Swift or Lorde song makes the rotation), and what no longer appeals also.
I'm more than comfortable knowing I don't fit into the new music sucks age group. Now if you don't mind, I'll carry on flying the electronica flag.
